Charles Fredrickson Dead After Long Illness

Charles Fredrickson, pioneer farmer and stockman of this vicinity and a resident here since 1885, died Friday evening at his home following a long illness. Mr. Fredrick son, father-in-law of Congressman Frank Carlson of Concordia, was 76 years old.
Mr. Fredrickson was born Oct. 24, 1861, in Engeholm, Sweden, the son of William August and Christine Fredrickson. He immigrated to the United States in 1883, coming to Clay Center. Kan. where he stayed with an uncle for two years.
Came to Concordia in 1885
In 1885 he came to Concordia and engaged In carpenter work with the late William T. Short for about three years. He was married Oct. 22, 1887 to Christine Nelson and they went to a farm four miles east of Concordia. Mr. Fredrickson farmed extensively and was a prominent stock feeder on this place for 38 years.Honest, thrifty, fair-dealing and kindly, Mr. Fredrickson was of the sturdy type which makes great pioneers, good neighbors and staunch friends. He was devoted to his family and instilled in his sons and daughters the same sturdy principles which governed his own life. Deeply religious, he became a member of the Swedish Baptist church here in 1888 and helped to build the first church; he was chairman of the building committee when the present Baptist church was built and had served as a deacon of the church for 30 years.
Survived by Nine Children
Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs., Fredrickson. nine of whom, with their mother, survive him. They are: Mrs. Anton Landin, Clay center, Kan.; Mrs. Don Donahoo, Ottawa, Kan.: Mrs., Ward Butler. Bartlesville, Okla.; Mrs. Frank Carlson, Concordia; and Will, George, Paul, Carl, and Lane Fredrickson, all of Concordia. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and two great-grand-children. Mr. and Mrs., Fredrickson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary here Oct, 22. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 :30 o'clock at the Baptist church in Concordia. In charge of the Rev. Hawes. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
