Perry Shaffer, Wedding and Obituary

Miss Donnelly to Wed Mr. Shaffer

Mrs. Joseph Lee Judy, of Charleston, South Carolina, has announced the engagement of her sister, Miss Dorothy Evelyn Donnelly, and Perry Wayne Shaffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shaffer of Chandler.  The wedding will take place in Manas, Brazil in the fall.

Miss Donnelly is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.  She is completing the last year of her first term of service in the Amazon river valley as a missionary of the Southern Baptist convention.  Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin James Donnelly, of Lane.

Mr. Shaffer was graduated with a degree in architectural engineering from the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical college in Stillwater.  He was formerly employed with the Creole Petroleum corporation, a branch of Standard Oil of New Jersey, in Venezuela.  For the last year he has been located in Manaos, Brazil

Hand-written notes indicate that this obituary was taken from the Lincoln County News, January 9, 1986:

Service for Perry Wayne Shafffer, 75, Greenwood, South Carolina, a native of Chandler, were Dec. 22 at Woodfields Baptist Church in Greenwood.

Shaffer was born Nov. 9, 1910, at Chandler.  He died Dec. 20.

He graduated from Chandler High School in 1928, then studied architectural engineering at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University), graduating in 1932.

Shaffer worked with several architectural firms in Oklahoma and Texas.  As an employee of Creole Petroleum, he worked in Moturin and Caracas, Venezuela.

During World War II he served with the Rubber Development Administration in Manous, Brazil

He married Dorothy E. Dounley, a Southern Baptist missionary from South Carolina, on Dec. 13, 1951.  For 20 years they did mission work in Brazil, cooperating with the Southern Baptist Mission Board while he continued to do general engineering work at Manaus, Belo Horizonte and Blumenau.

Shaffer was a life member of Alpha Rho Chi professional fraternity and a member of Gideon International, the Investment Society of America and and Woodfields Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, and a sister, Christine Shaffer Casey, Chandler.  

Interment was at  Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
