Rose Myrtle May Shaffer Shaver

This is likely the earliest surviving photograph of Rose Shaffer.  On the back is noted: July 1887, age 6 Rose Shaffer.

This hand-written obituary is undated, unsigned, and is likely a draft:

Rose M. Shaver, daughter of Garrett M. and Lucy E. Shaffer was born May 7, 1881 in Portland Oregon and passed away Oct 4, 1967.  With her parents, she moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma at an early age.  Where on Dec. 24, 1902 she was married to John Shaver of Courtland Kansas and they moved to his farm in Republic County Kansas, near Kackley, where they lived until 1945 when they moved to Concordia, where they made their home until Mr. Shaver's death in 1965.  She has since that time lived with her daughter Mrs. Russell Hanson in Jamestown.  She was a member of the Baptist Church of Concordia & the Woman's Missionary Society of that church.

She is survived by her three children Velva, Mrs. Edgar Johnson of Courtland, Harold Shaver of Enid Oklahoma and Lucine, Mrs Russell Hanson of Jamestown.  Also three grandchildren, Irwin Johnson of Courtland; Eldon Shaver of Wilmington, Del., Patricia Abbott of Ft. Worth, Texas; and nine great-grand-children: Laura, Mary, Philip and John, Johnson.  Bruce and John Shaver, and David, Paul & Jamie Abbott.

She was a devoted Christian mother and grandmother, friend, & will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Rose Shaver Dies; Was 86 Years Old and Resident Since 1945

Mrs. Rose M. Shaver, widow of John Shaver, died this morning at St. Joseph hospital following a long illness.  She was 86.

Mrs. Shaver was born May 7, 1881 at Portland, Ore. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Shaffer.  She was a member of the Baptist church and of the Women's Missionary Society of the church.  She was married to John Shaver on Dec. 24, 1902 at Guthrie. Okla. and they came to Concordia in 1945.  Following her husband's death April 1, 1965 Mrs. Shaver continued to make her home at 1219 Broadway.  The past two years she had stayed with her daughter, Mrs. Russell Hanson at Jamestown.

Mrs. Shaver is survived by these children: Velva, now Mrs. Edgar Johnson of Courtland; Harold F. Shaver, of Enid, Okla.; and Lucine, now Mrs. Russell Hanson of Jamestown; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Baptist church with the Rev. Frederick Martin of Jamestown officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Respect calls for Mrs. Rose M. Shaver may be made at Chaput's funeral home after 10 a. m. Thursday.
